Corn Burning Tips

TIPS ON STARTING A CORN BURNING STOVE

Corn stoves can be started very easily using a variety of methods. The most common and probably the easiest way to start a corn stove is to purchase one 40 pound bag of wood pellets (any grade) and use the pellets and gelled alcohol as a starter. The starter pellets should last at least one season and are very economical, especially if purchased in the off season.

With most corn stoves you want to fill the burn pot 1/3 to 1/2 with pellets and apply a modest amount of the gelled alcohol to the top of the pellets. Use a short wood stick to partially stir the starter gel into the pellets and apply a second dollop of gel to the top of the mix. Simply take a match and touch the top of the starter load and close the door. Usually wait for about 30 seconds and start your stove as per the manual.
