TIPS ON STARTING PELLET BURNING STOVE

The majority of pellet stoves are started automatically, but if your starter should wear out in mid-season or if you have a manually ignited stove here are some basic instructions. Keep in mind all units are different, read your manual.

Pellet stoves can be started fairly easily using a variety of methods. This method is perhaps the easiest and most recommended by major manufacturers.

Take a measured amount of pellets from the hopper or a pellet bag. With most pellet stoves you want to fill the burn pot 1/3 to 1/2 with pellets and apply a modest amount of the gelled alcohol to the top of the pellets. Use a short wood stick to partially stir the starter gel into the pellets and apply a second dollop of gel to the top of the mix. Simply take a match and touch the top of the starter load and close the door. Usually wait for about 30 seconds and start your stove as per the manual.
